Thickness Measurement in Aboveground Storage Tanks Bottom Plates

Thickness Measurement in Aboveground Storage Tanks Bottom Plates

(OP)
Is there anyway to measure thickness of bottom plate of above ground storage tanks while operating.

RE: Thickness Measurement in Aboveground Storage Tanks Bottom Plates

If you know whether or not the tank has an annular ring, this could be very easy. If the tank has no annular ring, then just take UT readings on the chime.

If the tank has an annular ring, and you REALLY need the readings, you can excavate the area to where you can take a UT reading about 2-3 feet in from the edge.

My question is this:

What's your reasoning for getting this thickness?
What's the diameter of the tank?

RE: Thickness Measurement in Aboveground Storage Tanks Bottom Plates

Do a search on the internet, there are companies that have crawling robots which can UT the tank bottom while in operation.
