Material Balance

Material Balance

Material Balance

(OP)
All, I am not even close to being a chemical engineer but I am putting together a demo for an RBI module that requires the input of many variables. One of the variables that has to be entered is the process stream make up for a generic crude unit. The application needs to understand what is in the vessels and piping in order to generate the potential damage mechanisms. What I was needing was material balance sheets for a crude unit that lists the various process fluids in mole %. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Material Balance

Every crude feed has different properties.  Different amounts of components different boiling points.  You need a crude assay and from that information you can create a crude unit simulation using HYSYS.  Then you can get the material balances.  You need to ask what the crude assay looks like (usually expressed in Deg API & wt %).  You may need to combine different assays also for crude mixtures (HYSYS is good at this and design ii)

Yours,

Mike F.

RE: Material Balance

you are way way to far out on your RBI if you need that much detail.  You need to tell the RBI all the bad stuff that is above a norm.  The RBI should assume that you have flamable fluids as a starting point, them modify for caustics, acids, poisonous, errosive, extremely reactive, and other things
