Concrete Piers for Underground Propane Tanks

Concrete Piers for Underground Propane Tanks

Concrete Piers for Underground Propane Tanks

Would anyone know of web sites where data (dimensions, weights, bearing pressure on footing, concrete type, the whole work...)on concrete piers are available.

Tank dia. 84", Min length 12'.

I found one site but with limited info. I just don't want to redesign this limited info. in ACAD to determine weights and calculate adequacy of footing size if I can help it.

Underground tank? With earth contact or in a vault?

RE: Concrete Piers for Underground Propane Tanks

Hire a structural engineer?

Civilperson, tanks to be in contact with fill.
JAE, structural engineer have nothing to do with my request.  I can personally design these piers with all the reinforcement needed and with the proper size footings, and have carpenters lay out the forms and concrete poured, however, it is more cost effective if commercially bought.

Then why post a question here?  You know how to do it, knock yourself out.

RE: Concrete Piers for Underground Propane Tanks

It appears that chicopee can do it himself, but he would rather just down-load the design.

chicopee, I'm not sure what footing system you are looking for (I have no experience in that area) but I find it suprising that you expect to down-load a design which will suitable for a specific tank in a specific location.
I assume that you will still be liable for the design.

RE: Concrete Piers for Underground Propane Tanks

No footing needed if bottom is excavated to match the curve of the tank bottom.

Footing will be needed for these piers since tanks must be anchored against buoyancy. These piers will be shorter in height than the type you find for AST. I must also control settlement.  Tanks will be tied down.

I have found one site with drawings but no further details about their weights, reinforcement, anchoring points for straps etc...

I want to control cost on this project.

Amen brother.

RE: Concrete Piers for Underground Propane Tanks

If you were to have the piers precast, the precaster would devlop and detail the design for you. Otherwise the AIA has a graphical handbook which may have such details, but you would responsible for adequacy of the design.

Thanks for the replies responders,  I have completed the project and it was accepted.
