Insertion Valve vs Mechanical Joint Tapping Valve

Insertion Valve vs Mechanical Joint Tapping Valve

Insertion Valve vs Mechanical Joint Tapping Valve

(OP)
What is the difference between the two?

RE: Insertion Valve vs Mechanical Joint Tapping Valve

An insertion valve is a valve that is installed in an existing waterline while it is "hot" to be able to isolate a section of that line.  Look up "Hydra-Stop" and you can see how this valve is installed.

A Mechanical Joint Tapping valve is used to connect a new line onto an existing line while the existing line is "hot".

Thanks.  It seems like they do the same thing.  Why would someone prefer one to the other?

RE: Insertion Valve vs Mechanical Joint Tapping Valve

They don't do the same thing.  The tapping tee and valve are used to connect to an existing line.  The insert valve isn't.

The insert valve is not used to connect a new main.  It is used to install a valve in an existing line where there isn't one.

They are concepts of the installation process that are similar; but, they are different and the valves are used for different purposes.

You should get a copy of a fittings catalogue and study it.

Any recommendations on a good fittings catalog?

Call the local Piping supplier and ask for one or two different ones.
