Sheet metal

Sheet metal

Sheet metal

(OP)
Hoi,

i'm using NX4.0.4.2 and new to sheet metal modeling, constructed a part but I think there must be a simplified solution. Could anyone give some tips/trics on how to model this part?

Thanks in advance,

with best regards.

Michaël.

RE: Sheet metal

Hi

I'm using NX5 but the same sheet metal commands exist in NX4. Here is how I would model it:(DCS+ 6 features)

- create a round tab
- make a SB Normal cutout feature for both the tab cut outs.
- SB flange with the from both ends width. (you may need a little more bend relief than you have at present...)
- Mirror flange about datum plane.
- SB Normal cutout for off-centre hole.
- SB Normal cutout for the arc edges thru both flanges.

Model below.

Rob,

thanks for the input, but if I flatten the pattern, I won't get the full circular starting body. The two cut out flange have a greater diameter than the original. That's why I used the bend/rebend/bend option to be sure I'll have the correct diameter (by assosiative projection).

Anyhow still thanks for effort, I will be using the sketch in the feature option like you.

Greetings.

RE: Sheet metal

Hi

Well you can just set up the cut to give an approximation of the flange length to start with. You know that the dia of the arc will be 58mm.

Then just unbend both of the tabs and see how close you are in relation to the flat disc. With a dimension of about 2.58mm (from flange cut out sketch; the datum axis to the edge of the flange arc) will result in a flat form wich is pretty close. It's developed sheet metal so it is never going to be 100% accurate in reality. You may also want to check your k value (for sheet metal bending) with your supplier.

BR Rob.
