8-node Shell (Shell93) Extrapolating Results

8-node Shell (Shell93) Extrapolating Results

(OP)
Hi All,
I am working with a Shell93 element and I have worked myself into a little bit of a confusion.  According to the ANSYS help menu, this element is a 8-node quadratic element, with a corresponding isoparametric shape functions.  But this element uses 2x2 Gauss Integration for (4 integration points).  If this is the case, how do I go about extrapolating values (e.g. stress) with conflicting concepts (8 shape function / 4 integration points)?  I am aware that you can get integration results moved to the nodes for analysis, but how do you extrapolate these.  I understand that for a 4-node element you can take the shape function (evaluated at point of interest) and multiply by scalar quantity (stress) at Gauss point, but how does it work in this situation?

Also I noticed that under the section 13.6. Nodal and Centroidal Data Evaluation, there is an assumed data variation for quads, but there is no information on the coefficients (a,b,c,d).

Thanks
D
