Licensure of a foreigne engineer
Licensure of a foreigne engineer
(OP)
Hello all,
i'm a chemical Engineer graduated from a university outside the USA and the NCEES agreed with a university in my country to offer both the FE & PE exams for local engineers.
i'm taking the FE exam next October and i have those questions;
1) what will happen next if i pass the FE exam, i mean to whome should i to apply to get the title EIT?
2) if i take the PE exam and pass it, will i be licenced PE in the united states and if yes in which states?
your feed back is highly appreciated.

also what will i gain from being EIT?!!
RE: Licensure of a foreigne engineer
Having the EI designation is one major step in obtaining licensure. It is better to take the FE exam when in school than to wait until later to take both exams.

"also what will i gain from being EIT?!! ", in some industries, nothing more than a piece of paper to hang on the wall, in other industries it shows you are on the path to getting a PE.
There is more to getting a PE than just taking the exam; you have to have relevant work experience documented by professional references. Plus you need to get the particular state to accept your degree. Some states are pickier than others (no this does not make any sense but it is the way it is).
RE: Licensure of a foreigne engineer
Every state requires separate application to its licensing board. Each one of them has slightly different requirements. But most would accept exams approved by NCEES, if other criteria are met.

You've touched on several topics that I'd like to help clarify:
a) Qualifications to work as an engineer in the USA - It is all varied here in the USA. Some engineering jobs require PE licenses, some require PHDs, some master's degrees, some batchelors degrees and some experience only. Its up to the employer to choose the person who suits their specific needs.
b) Licensure - NCEES does not give PE licenses, they create the exam. Its the individual states in the USA that give licenses. If you want a PE license, contact the states individually [there is no (1) USA PE license that covers all the states]. As stated above, licensure is not a requirement for most engineering jobs in the USA, just certain ones.
