Solidworks - Turn Object Into Light Source

Solidworks - Turn Object Into Light Source

Solidworks - Turn Object Into Light Source

(OP)
I've been working on a model of a small building in solidworks. I want to put lights inside the building that look like normal fluorescent lamps.

I've tried playing with the material properties and putting spot lights inside a pre-made part but nothing I've done looks very good.

Is there a way I can make a part that emits light which I can put inside the building assembly?

RE: Solidworks - Turn Object Into Light Source

You can increase the emissivity in the apparences.  Unfortunately, this only throws light from the part, but that light does not reflect.

You can also add point lights in the "Lights and Cameras" folder.  Perhaps add a point light inside a translucent part?

Also don't forget to turn down the ambient and external directional light.

RE: Solidworks - Turn Object Into Light Source

In 2009 (maybe 2008) PW introduced Lights as materials.  When you apply a PW appearance to an object select Lights under materials and choose LED, LCD, etc.  Then adjust properties as needed.

Make sure you've got good use of indirect lighting set up in your scene, too, so the light has opportunity to bounce around and illumine the surroundings.

I found the material folder for light. Thanks for the help.
