Radiator fan

Radiator fan

Radiator fan

(OP)
What will happen if I fit a 150w/12v radiator fan(originally 150w/12v is for petrol engine of the same model) instead of 200w/12v radiator fan for my diesel engine car.how does the wattage affects the life and performance of the fan? Please give me suggestions.

RE: Radiator fan

The fan will be fine.  However, with the air moving capacity reduced, the diesel engine may run hot.  What is the purpose of second guessing the engineers that designed your car.  The 50 watt savings equates to approximately 0.07 horsepower.

RE: Radiator fan

CFM changes as the cube root of horsepower, so your air flow and cooling will be considerably reduced, not that good an idea.

can that reduce the life of fan?if so,what is the reason?

RE: Radiator fan

Once again - No.  The fan will not be damaged by having less power applied to it.  In fact, as Willard and I are trying to say above, I'm pretty sure the fan will easily outlast your now marginally cooled car engine.

RE: Radiator fan

You should acquaint yourself with the fan laws.

It certainly shouldn't shorten the life of the fan but will certainly affect the life of the diesel engine.

RE: Radiator fan

It doesn't appear he is concerned about the life of the car, only that the fan life isn't affected.
