Flow rate for Plate Heat Exchanger

Flow rate for Plate Heat Exchanger

Assuming I have a pump which supplied water to PHE (cold-side) at 50m3/hr.

what happen if the supply of water is decrease since i'm want to tap that line for other services?

RE: Flow rate for Plate Heat Exchanger

You outlet temperature will increase on both sides.

Best regards
Morten

Thanks Morten,

is there any way to overcome this problem without changing the pump?
I'm thinking to add more plate cooler as to increase the effeciency of heat tranfer rate.
any advise?

RE: Flow rate for Plate Heat Exchanger

Increaseing the heat transfer area could mean that your hot side could remain unchanged - your cold side will however increase (even more). You will have to do a temperature cross check.

Best regards

Morten

RE: Flow rate for Plate Heat Exchanger

Reducing flow or adding plates will reduce the pumped water side velocities and the heat transfer coefficient will fall off fast.  Reducing flow will also reduce the bulk water flow reducing the overall duty capability of the Hx at any heat transfer coefficient.

You could, however check with your Hx vendor about two passing your cold water side (or both).
