SF6 Substations
(OP)
Hello everybody,
I would like to receive some comments about the advantages/disadvantages of installing a switchgear of SF6 at 34.5 kV.
Any comment will be welcome
Thanks in advance!

RE: SF6 Substations
Disadvantages are generally higher cost than air insulated switchgear and SF6 is an environmental and safety hazard if not controlled (risk)
Thats the simple version according to one young enegineer. Im interested in other opinions.
Thanks,
Andrew
RE: SF6 Substations
Your opinion is OK
I would like add to disadvantages, repairs problems of SF6 SS, and problem with extention of existing station.

RE: SF6 Substations
The SF6 gas insulated switchgear has no maintenance at all but requires certain skill if some problem occurs. The only problem in SF6 is the leakage of SF6
RE: SF6 Substations
But smaller size is the main reason to use GIS over AIS.
RE: SF6 Substations
I hope we talk about GIS vs AIS
RE: SF6 Substations
1?SF6 has been selected as a space saving device. The Switchgear is smaller and can be installed easy.
2,the noise is low, does not have burning and the explosion hazard, is suitaed able for the inhabit area.
the disadvantage is have the environmental hazard if not controlled , but now the technical is so good, it can avoid it , but it is need much more money.
RE: SF6 Substations
Con: Only one--money. You pay for what you get so the first costs are high. Factor in O&M on the alternatives and talk about life cycle costs and maybe you can show that GIS is a better deal.
If you want good examples of GIS stations go look at the City of Anaheim...beautiful stuff they are building...really world class.
