Time Period in abaqus/Explicit

Time Period in abaqus/Explicit

Time Period in abaqus/Explicit

(OP)
Hi,
I'm using Abaqus/Explicit to simulate the forming process. My process took 922 second to finish. I set 922s in Time period in Step Module.
The material parameter:

- Young Modulus: 45GPa
- Poison:0.33
- Density: 1770kg/m3

I use formula of wave speed in Abaqus Documentation. (section 6.3.3 Explicit dynamic analysis) to calculate wave speed.
Wave Speed cd = 6137.5

The process is only one step. I set mass scale of 1000, the part is meshed with approximate global size: 1

Results Abaqus stopped with deformation speed is over 10000 wave speed.

I tried to decrease time period = 500s. The simulation finished. I don't understand what is happen.

If you have experience in Explicit, please tell me. Thanks in advance.

RE: Time Period in abaqus/Explicit

The Time period is how long the step occurs in simulation.  Abaqus uses the time period value and the values under the incrementation tab, to determine how long an increment is.  The long the time period, the more time an increment simulates.  If you have a time period of 922s as you have, and you increment 20 times per time period.  Each Increment is 46.1 s apart.  When you changed to a time period of 500s each increment is 25s long.  This isn't solving time, this is how long the simulation is.  I hope that makes sense.

Check section 14.10.2 in the Abaqus/CAE User Manual int he documentation for more.
