Inserting Excel Spreadsheet into ADT 3.3

Inserting Excel Spreadsheet into ADT 3.3

Inserting Excel Spreadsheet into ADT 3.3

(OP)
We have Architectural Desktop 3.3 and are having trouble inserting a 'whole' excel spreadsheet into our drawing.  We've tried every possible way of inserting this spreadsheet including the Insert OLE and copying and pasting special.  The pasting special got us the furthest with a total of 13 columns being inserted.  We have 20 colunms that need to be entered and would really like to conquer this obstacle, so when we change info in the spreadsheet it will be changed in the drawing.  Any suggestions?

RE: Inserting Excel Spreadsheet into ADT 3.3

I ran into this problem in ACAD as well...unfortunately our solution was to cut and paste the Excel sheet in multiple pieces. It can be a little tricky pasting multiple objects so that they look alright, but as you have stated in your question, nothing else seems to work. The other method we have used is to print the spreadsheet, scan it, and then insert the scanned image into the drawing. Again this probably isn't the best solution, but from a purely visual standpoint it works. Good luck.

Chris,

That ended up being our solution, also.  I was just hoping there was something else that could be done. Thanks!

The copy/paste that was mentioned above works, but what happens when the text changes?
I use excel to generate lighting fixture schedules with the following: you of course can do it the same way for door/window schedules, etc.

-Copy a range of cells from excel, watch the origin of the text in Excel, use "left justified" so the text comes into ACAD the same way.
-Do a "Paste Special" into ACAD. Paste the cells as "AutoCAD Entities"
-Move/Scale the block of text to the location/size you need
-Xplode (XP) the text so you can put it into whatever layer you want (ie A-Text)
-If you have text on the drawing that is the same size/font as what you want, do a "Match properties" to give the text the font that you want.

The advantage to doing this of course, is that the text can be modified as needed as the project progresses thru the design and construction doc phases! Hope this helps.

RE: Inserting Excel Spreadsheet into ADT 3.3

To transfer more data from Excel to AutoCAD,it is necessary to reduce column width & row height. To accomplish this, we change all text to a small font - 6 pt for example. Then, autosize column widths & row heights. You should be able to transfer much more information.
