Multiple aggregate sources...any code reference?

Multiple aggregate sources...any code reference?

Multiple aggregate sources...any code reference?

(OP)
Our firm is the engineer of record on a project in a remote western states area.  The project will involve several mass concrete placements of over 1,000 CY each.  The local suppliers have concerns about meeting the delivery requirements (contract limits duration of placement to 8 hours) from only one supplier.

We have been asked by the concrete contractor if there would there be any "code" problems if more than one supplier were to be used to supply a) aggregate or b) ready mixed concrete.

Are any members of this forum aware of of any provisions or tests that would address multiple sources of aggregate?  Multiple suppliers for one placement?

Thank you for your support.

RE: Multiple aggregate sources...any code reference?

There is no provision for rejecting multiple aggregate suppliers.  This is not necessarily uncommon; however, the mix design must show that the various aggregate sources have been included in the moving average of strengths, otherwise new mix designs and verification must be done to comply with ACI 318.

RE: Multiple aggregate sources...any code reference?

Require each supplier to submit samples of all their products to be tested by your lab at their cost prior to approval for use on the project.
