SW curve through XYZ points

SW curve through XYZ points

I'm trying to make a shell with an airfoil-shaped (NACA 0010) cross section. I can import the data points as a curve through XYZ points. This works fine, but the curve exists outside of a sketch so I don't really know how to work with it. I want to have the airfoil shape in a sketch so I can just extrude it. Is there an easier way to go about this? Thanks!

Dan,

I think I must have been unclear in my original post. That is what I have already done. The problem is that once I do that, there's nothing I can do to the curve after that.

Thanks!

RE: SW curve through XYZ points

opzori ... you have an open loop sketch, but you can't extrude a thin-feature solid or surface from it?

Can you post the file?

RE: SW curve through XYZ points

Are you extruding from a profile, essentially 2D, or trying to surface a 3D point set?  Is that why you are importing XYZ points?

Gwubs: Yes, I was trying to extrude from a 2-D profile. I wanted a NACA0010 airfoil-shaped profile, and the only way I know how to get one into SW is by using import XYZ points. But I couldn't figure out what to do with the curve next so that I could extrude it.

But I just found a solution a few minutes ago. I didn't know about the "converting entities" option. This converted the curve to a spline existing within the sketch, which is what I wanted to do.

Thanks for the responses! They helped me better verbalize what I was trying to do, which helped me find a solution.

RE: SW curve through XYZ points

I'm glad that you found a solution and posted back how you did it for future reference.
