Custom Properties and WorkGroup

(OP)
Without resorting to Lifecycles I'd like to have two custom properties populated as follows:

"Author" would lock to the logged in user that created the document originally and never change.  Maybe "created by" would be more descriptive.

The second would be set at check in, equating to the currently "logged in user" or "current Owner" of the document.

This would cleanly establish: "Drawn By" and "Approved By" names/initials for both the original creation and all subsequent revisions.

So far, Author changes with each check in and I can't find $PRP:"Owner" or any other equivalent property.  Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated, Thanks.

RE: Custom Properties and WorkGroup

Interesting concept; I would have use for it.  However I always discounted the possibility because, if one wanted to, the "owner" custom property could just be deleted by anyone who didn't like it....I can't imagine a property that could be locked in place like this?

Yes, I think many would have a use for it.  Your concern for security is valid, however in my case it is not an issue as none of these users would intentionally delete a property.  My wish is that once set SW/WorkGroup would not automatically change it with each check-in.

RE: Custom Properties and WorkGroup

Just put a couple of custom properties in your documents, for arguments sake "Created by" and "checked by" and have your users populate them on check in. You can assign them to the list of mapped custom properties in the vault to make them searchable. They will also appear on the check in screen as editable fields as well.

Yes, that's what we have now.  Two lists accessed via the property tab pane.  I was trying eliminate the need to set both of these properties on every part, drawing, and assembly on every check-in for the entire life of the document.  It sounds trivial until you've got 100+ files to check in.
