3sm allowable for IN625 from ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code

3sm allowable for IN625 from ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code

(OP)
Hi,

Please can anyone give me the 3Sm (now Sps I believe) allowable from the ASME BPVC for Inconel 625 annealed sheet?  It's not in the 1986 edition.  Is it even in the later editions?

Thanks,

JE.

JohnnyEnglish;
Why are you using the 1986 edition of the ASME B&PV Code? If you can get a more recent edition of the ASME B&PV Code, review UG-23. All if the information is there on how to calculate local discontinunity stresses from allowable stress S in Table 1B of Section II, Part D.

I'm using it because that's all I have.

Is IN625 in the latest version?  Can you give me the allowable for combined Primary and Secondary stresses please?  Or is it not a simple matter?

JohnnyEnglish;

Yes to your first question.

The stress intensity Sm is in Table 2B of Section II for Inconel 625 (UNS N06625). You need to know the service temperature to obtain a value. The value of 3Sm or Ssp is a calculated value.
