please help this young operator-mdt r4 problems!

(OP)
hi my name is nick im 19 and currently at my job having loads of problems.

mechanical desktop r4 is what im on, and i have used it in the past and i thought i was okay at it but i guess i just am  not good.

i have to make fire escape plans for my plant, which consists of multiple buildings. my plan was to use the regular site plan-with all the lots, grass, etc.-and put the seperate buildings in multiple layout(paper)spaces. the problem is i can't get a section of the model space into the paper space. its pretty much all or nothing at all. ive tried using scenes multiple times, and even cut and paste, but nothing works. and even if the scenes did work, i can't make it into a rectangle, or window. instead i have to pick the lines i want in it and sometimes the line is too long. for example i want half the parking lot but the border of the lot extends way too far to the right.

thanks to whoever takes the time to even read this, im in my 6th hour of trying to find an answer.

RE: please help this young operator-mdt r4 problems!

Dear 37379;

First of all you should be posting this message in the MDT forum or at least the AutoCad forum, where you can get more help.

Secondly, IMHO, With 20 years drafting and design experience I wouldn't bother trying to do a plant layout using MDT4 or any other solid modelling program. As you have discovered, its an enormous hassle. For Plant layout plain old AutoCad 2000 or Version 14 is more than adequete and is likely the fastest solution. Go into your drawing space and export whatever views you have and open them in AutoCad. Edit and create what you want there. You will be much happier, trust me. Been there, done that.

Thirdly, dont give up, if you need help over the weekend post in the AutoCad forum and I will give whatever help I can. I'm sure others will help too. If you insist on using Desktop I'm afraid there just will not be enough time to bring you up to speed, it just takes a lot of practice on your part and that requires many weeks  at least.

Hope this helps

hey
thanks for your help, i found the other forum like 5 minutes after i put this one up.

yeah, i have been just updating the companies mdt files basically, and this makes me wonder why the other guy before me didn't do the plans on autocad, i even wondered that myself when i started the project.

well, muchos gracias,
nick
