Script or Macro to write out Frame # and list of Active Elements

Script or Macro to write out Frame # and list of Active Elements

(OP)
First of all, I've been using ABAQUS for awhile in my research.  I'm new to the macros and Python scripting.

I'm trying to put together a macro or script that will generate an output text file that lists the frame number and the list of active elements.

I've run my analysis and have created a Display Group of desired elements (those with Mises stress greater than 2200).

Currently, I manually going through each frame and hitting the "Active Elements Visualization Mode Query" to get a list.  Then, I'm listing the elements on paper (yep...old fashioned and very time consuming!) As I increment through each frame, I compare the "new elements" with my list of "old elements" and add any new ones.

Is there a way to do this without opening CAE?  Or, does it need to be run from within CAE...which isn't bad, because I can see the elements and analysis in question.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Thanks,

Forgot to add that my analysis has a single step...but with 100 increments or frames.  I have about 20 different .odb files to analyze.

My intent is to build a listing of the active elements (with Mises > 2200) through the analysis.  Then analyze the list of frame # and active elements in Matlab.

akabarten,

Thanks for the help...I'll give it a try.  In the mean time, I've been able to toggle between the frame advance and querying the Active Elements.  When finished with all frames, I've copied the info in the .rpy file and edited it slightly to get just the frame number and list of active elements.  I repeat this for each different .odb file and it has been working so far...
