How to model a composite beam ?
How to model a composite beam ?
(OP)
Hi,
I try to model a composite I-Beam with 3 layers.
I think I could do something in the Property module with "Composite" "Create" but I really don't understand how it works, and I can't manage to select the region of the ply...
So I tried another way : I draw my beam in the Part module, and then I partitioned it to make appear the different layers. I created different materials and an homogene section for each, then I assigned the sections to the regions of my beam concerned.
When I create the materials, I choose "Mechanical" "Elastic" "lamina" and I enter E1, E2, G12, nu12...
When I submit the job, it is aborted and I have an error : ELASTIC,TYPE=LAMINA CAN ONLY BE USED WITH PLANE STRESS ELEMENTS
I can't find where the "plane stress elements" take place.
Can someone helps me ?
Thanks a lot

RE: How to model a composite beam ?
You can define an orthotropic material by using Materials->Elastic->Engineering constants and them assign material orientations to each layer as required.
