part detail view in an working assembly drawing
part detail view in an working assembly drawing
(OP)
hi solidworks users! and.. ok, sorry in advance if it's a stupid question, but is only a doubt and i want to solve it, or understanding if my way of working is good or not
in my company we use working assembly drawing, so in the assembly drawing we put also the detail of the parts
our way to proceed is:
-making the assemly
- creating the drawing starting from it
- inserting the desired part view on the sheet, finding it on the pc
to do this, we need to know the extact configuration of the part, so we sometimes lose time checking which configuration it is, and to find the right part in the usual 3 million folders of the server
my doubt is: there's no other, simplier and more efficient method to follow that you can suggest?
also: do you use working assembly drawing? and which way your company choosed: an assembly drawing and a detailed parts drawing, a unique working drawing with assemblies and parts or... other?
thanks in advance for the help,
Alvise

RE: part detail view in an working assembly drawing
but we work on small assemblies, i mean in terms of quantity of parts, and sometimes is useful to have on the same drawing also the details of the parts that has to be realized
one man that worked here use to print every part of an assembly on a different paper, and our old supplier went crazy with all the papers to manage, so asked us to print higher and right view of the parts (the front one is on the assembly view)
also, working well on part configurations, on the drawing also the details change
now we are trying to do the things in the most efficient way (we started with 4 new supplier, so we can say we are beginning again)
but my question will be the same: if i have an assembly and i want to give to my supplier the detail of the part, there's no fastest way to follow? there's no way to have for example the right view of a part selecting it in the assembly and not looking for it in the part folder and importing it?

For example: macro will traverse the assembly tree and insert the model views and set required referenced configuration.
It can really save a lot of your time!

but i will try with macros, maybe we can, as artem said, save a lot of time, for example opening file together
i'd like to know how you give assembly drawings and parts detailed drawings to your suppliers.. one paper? two papers (one for assembly and one for parts)? as many papers as the parts are?
RE: part detail view in an working assembly drawing
One part> one drawing > part number = part drawing number.
In SW2009, when a component is opened from an assy, it is opened at the config being referenced. The config will then be correct for the drawing. If you open from the assy, you don't have to go searching through folders.
The assy drawing BOM should reference the part number/drawing, and that part number should be unique for each config. Configs of a component can be tabulated on one drawing.

my suppliers seemed happy during last orders using this method
let's see!
