Lightning Protection Class II

Lightning Protection Class II

(OP)
I'm in the CSA world for lightning protection.

We have a project which involves a structure of >25 meters. The building is structurally interconnected with steel walls and roofing. There are HVAC, air vents, steel platforms, stanchion mounted lighting and water steel piping. I considered the installation to be Class II per CSA Lightning Code.

We have air terminals as per design on the platforms and at the edge of the building installed per CSA requirements. The air vents which is 3 meters high and some steel water pipe steel supports don't have air terminals on them.

Is bonding them to the lightning grid conductors sufficient to mitigate flash overs?

RE: Lightning Protection Class II

I'm not sure about CSA, but I think it is similar to NFPA 780. In that case, if the objects are at least 4.8mm thick appropriate bonding may be adequate.

There is a formula to calculated flashover distances, which depends on several variables.
