Fire Protection Handbook Edition 14

Need a electronic file for the Fire Protection Handbook 14th edition.

RE: Fire Protection Handbook Edition 14

Try looking at NFPA's website to see if they offer it for sale.

NFPA does not have this.

RE: Fire Protection Handbook Edition 14

The Fire Protection Handbook is commentary - it's not code. Why do you need an earlier edition?

My site has a requirement to perform a flow test of the fire suppression water system in accordance with Chapter 5, Section 11 of the Fire Protection Handbook, 14th Edition.

RE: Fire Protection Handbook Edition 14

I think I understand in that your criteria is based on documented criteria and the criteria is set forth in a book no longer in print. I'll suggest that you do the test in accordance with the applicable current NFPA standard. I'm not sure what you are testing but if its a fire pump or a private fire protection water supply, I don't think their are any different methods between how it was done 15 years ago and today.

RE: Fire Protection Handbook Edition 14

Dear fpsystem,You've got an accurate& professional reply from one of this forum Giants.

Please go ahead to do pressure testing in accordance with present-day applicable code's NFPA13, NFPA14 and fetch Guidance from NFPA glossary of Terms (available on-line) and the NFPA website.

You should be able to get the required help/ guidance very soon. Thereby resolving your problem.

If not grossly mistaken by me, you raised similar query responded then by forum admin 'vpl' some 2~3 months back?
Is this correct!

RE: Fire Protection Handbook Edition 14

I have the 14th edition of the Fire Protection Handbook it is from 1976. Chapter 5, Section 11 is Housekeeping practices nothing to do with flow test of the fire suppression water system. See NFPA 25, 2008 edition which is the current edition for Water Based Fire Protection Systems.

RE: Fire Protection Handbook Edition 14

I agree. Since it is a book and not a code, I suppose an old version will not provide anything important to make a different test.

I have found the copy I was looking for and found that the testing method in the 14th edition only allow the use hydrants.  Therefore, the full flow meter flow test allow per NFPA today and being performed at my siste does not met the method in 1976.  Thanks for your inputs.
