Cost increase from barge installation

Cost increase from barge installation

Cost increase from barge installation

(OP)
Does anyone have a rough idea of the increases in cost of installing sheet piles from a barge as opposed to from land?  Installing about 20,000 sqft of wall, and it is possible to install either from land or water.  We're exploring whether avoiding impacts to the landside is worth the money.

RE: Cost increase from barge installation

You may need to post some more information to get any kind of response.  Such as:

   - What are the depth of the sheets? (also embed v. stick-up)
   - How far would the driving crane need to reach from the barge?
   - Is this on a lake or in a navigable river?

Those are a few Qs that come to mind quickly.

Sheets will be installed on a navagable river.  The river is about 10-15 feet deep at about 10 feet from where the wall will be installed, but gets shallower closer to shore.  Total wall depth is 35 feet (20' up, 15' embedded).

RE: Cost increase from barge installation

The additional cost for barge work is related to barge rentals, tug fees, outfitting the barge, weather delays, and permit retrictions for work on waterways which can severly limit tug availability.  Basically, costs can vary widely from job to job.

RE: Cost increase from barge installation

I'm not sure this will help but...
Flexifloat, Poseidon, and Shoegart (sp?) are barge rental companies that I have experience with.  Some rental companies will tell you how many barges you need for the crane wt., pick wt., and radius that you are at.  After that costs come down to mobilization and duration.
