NX6 and F8

NX6 and F8

NX6 and F8

F8 snaps to the nearest orthogonal view. In past versions you were also able to select a planar face and F8 would snap to a straight on view of the selected face. Has that functionality been removed in NX6 (6.0.2.8)? I can't seem to get it to work.

RE: NX6 and F8

Let me be a little more specific: it seems to work fine in a part file, but does not seem to work in an assembly.

I have the selection filter set to 'face' and 'entire assembly', I pick a planar face that is not parallel to a canned view, press F8 and the view snaps to the nearest canned view.

RE: NX6 and F8

Cowski,

Can't comment on 6.0.2.8 (anymore), but it does work correctly in 6.0.3.6.

RE: NX6 and F8

In an assembly?   It works in 6.0.3.6 with my part files, but I can't get it to work in an assembly.

RE: NX6 and F8

Works for me in NX 6.0.3.6, whether I'm working in an assembly or not.  Make sure the 'Selection Scope' option is set to 'Entire Assembly' or you will not be able to select the face of a body which is not in your work part.

RE: NX6 and F8

Works ocassionally now, about half of the time it rotates so that you are looking // to the selected face plane instead of normal to it.

RE: NX6 and F8

Wait, I think that is the normal behavoir, depending on if the rotation is closer to to get to the // plane or the normal view plane to the face.  That is useful.

RE: NX6 and F8

Cowski,

Using 6.0.2.8 as long as I have the selection filter set to face that I get the expected behaviour. If for any reason you're able to select a feature rather than the face then it appears confusing sine the highlighted object is the same but the system will not snap to the face. I believe that is to be expected.

Thanks all for your replies, but still no joy.

I put together a small assembly to post so you could see what is going on, but of course F8 worked as expected. However, in other existing assemblies it still only snaps to the closest orthogonal view.

RE: NX6 and F8

Ok, I think I found something.

If the component is fully loaded, F8 works as expected. If it is only partially loaded, it will not snap to the view of the selected face. Is anyone else seeing this behavior?

This is a change from the last version I worked with (NX2), is this the way it works now or is it unintentional?

RE: NX6 and F8

Yes, it appears that something happened to this behavior between NX 4.0 and NX 5.0.  I will check it out and get back to you on what I learn.
