Bridge Starts as Lateral Structure?

Bridge Starts as Lateral Structure?

Bridge Starts as Lateral Structure?

(OP)
I have a series of bridges (two) that occur relatively close together. As seen from the attached GIS images, the first upstream bridge enter the floodplain from a parellel direction. How would I best attach the downstream cross section to this bridge without encroaching into the upstream cross section of the next bridge.

Would one ineffective flow area between these two bridges suffice, or does there need to be a single cross section between the two that has no ineff stations?

Should I extend the deck of the upstream bridge parallel to the floodplain as depicted on the topography, or should I end the bridge and connect it to a lateral structure?

RE: Bridge Starts as Lateral Structure?

tpcolson,

I am assuming that the photo was oriented with north being up.  I would model them as two separate bridges, and forget the lateral structure idea.  Just have the cross sections for the western bridge angle to the northwest between the two bridges, after running parallel as far as possible.

RE: Bridge Starts as Lateral Structure?

Forgot to address your other questons.  I would set the same ineffective areas for all cross sections between the two bridges.  As for the deck on the western bridge, I would extend it as if it parallel to the bounding cross sections, but stay between them.
