Lateral Soil Pressure on RC Pile
Lateral Soil Pressure on RC Pile
(OP)
May I request for some advise on a pile design?
I have a case where 3m of earth filling is coming below the pile head. (Abutment)
On the right side the gravel fill extend to a long distance horizintally. On the left side earth is sloping towards the river at 1:1.5 (vert:horz.)
Pile diameter 1.4 m
How can I calculate the maximum moment and shear force on the pile, from soil on either side?
When calculating the soil force what is the effective soil wedge width?
If there is a particular formula could you please give the reference to it.
Thank you

RE: Lateral Soil Pressure on RC Pile
Basically it assumes full passive pressure is developed behind that resists horizontal shear and overturning moment. What you do is that you assume 9*Cu passive resistance is developed behind the pile and then provide sufficient depth of pile to resist the forces.
Let us know if you need further information and I can post some notes regarding this method.

Thank you very much for the guidance
If possible please send some info to "theuse@sltnet.lk"
