Problem with view dependent edit (NX5)

Problem with view dependent edit (NX5)

Problem with view dependent edit (NX5)

(OP)
I've been using the 'view dependent edit' in the drafting mode. My aim was to create an exploded view with all components except one shaded. The remaining component is displayed in dotted line only (not shaded.)

This all looks very nice on the screen showing exactly the way I want, trouble is as soon as you print (either exported PDF or file > print) the whole thing prints out in fully shaded mode - even though the view dependent edit is set to 100% translucent for the dotted line component.

Any ideas on how to get a mixed shading drawing view to talk to the printed output?

Version of NX?

It would be nice if defining render sets could provide some functionality, but as far as I can see you're unfortunately out of luck.

Somewhere in the Customer Defaults is a setting for allowing shaded views to be printed as shaded or wireframe.  There is also a setting to allow translucency in drafting.

Thanks for the hints. No luck though. NX insists on printing either shaded or line views whilst displaying exactly what I need on the screen(shaded and line mixed view) which is pretty frustrating...
Short of printing my drawing via 'print screen' I've run out of options. As it happens I did do a print screen of what I would actually want my 'print' to look like. (see attached pdf)

If anyone can get NX to do this I would be interested to hear how :)

RE: Problem with view dependent edit (NX5)

ewh, is partly right at setting to allow translucency in views is to be found under the customer defaults or it can be turned on manually as required using the drafting preferences under the view tab.

That would allow you to create the view shown on your image. However if that was the only view on your drawing where you wanted the bracket to be shown as transparent then you may still struggle. You could complicate things by going another way or you could try what I've shown here which is a partially shaded view. You define the partially shaded components using object display, whereby everything by default is wire-frame in a partially shaded view so you can select the components that you want to show as shaded. Then when you add the view to a drawing you just set "partially shaded" instead of "shaded" using view style under the shaded tab.

The more complex way using translucency is possible but requires two copies of the body or component set to appear differently in different views. You need to filter for which is shown where using either "remove component from view" or layers and deal with the parts list as well if you have one. Alternatively you could link bodies to do the same thing but they you pretty much do have to use layers with visible in view settings.

Because we now know about the use of partially shaded views you'd have to concede that this is so rare and non standard that going to some extra trouble is more or less to be expected.

So where rendering sets may not offer any help there is still a solution that I hadn't used previously myself and we all get to learn something occasionally.
