Request for literature sources

I don't know how many here ever deal with the problem of natural convection within a vertical cylinder. I do, on a routine basis. But, there is a woeful lack of material on this subject.

Can someone point me to some authoritative references (experimental, theoretical) on this topic in general? And, specifically relating to transients (cooldown) in the production tubing in an oil/gas well.

Thank you.

RE: Request for literature sources

There is also a section 2 in the Handbook of Heat Exchanger Design that has information on free convection in vertical cylinders.

corus, I have looked at the link ... no dice.

srfish, Have never seen this handbook. But, I am guessing that the information I need is not there. It might have the free convection *on* vertical cylinders, but not inside.

RE: Request for literature sources

You are right. I checked and the information is for outside vertical exchangers. The handbook I have was published in 1990. There is a larger 2 volume set that was published in 2002 that may have more information.

The handbook mentions several references. They both have the title "Natural Convection in Enclosures". One is by Catton and the other by Ostrach.

The one by Ostrach doesn't have the required info. I will try and my hands on Catton.
