Are any of these solid edge books any good?

Are any of these solid edge books any good?

(OP)
Hi, i would love to hear your opinions on what you think of these books iv found, or if you could recommend me any others.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Engineering-Technical-Drawing-Using-Solid/dp/1585033294/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244310294&sr=8-1

what im really after is a book that goes deeper than just the basics, i have gotton most of the basics down from online tutorials and solid edge built in help, the thing im struggling with is how to apply this knowledge to objects that arnt simple protrusions but has curved and bends all over its body.

Cheers!!!

I have the first and third book on your list, though earlier versions.  Both are good to have as a reference and provide some useful additional information. But if I am honest, there is only a little bit of extra info - and there is little if any in terms of insight - more just going through the tool set.
If I were to pick one, I think I would go for No.2 - even though I havn't read it, the list of contents looks more comprehensive.

RE: Are any of these solid edge books any good?

I bought Sham Tickoo's book for V19 and was very disappointed. The book covers very basic stuff. Not worth the book price or the steep transport charge (never choose UPS delivery from USA to Canada as you are sure to pay for bogus customs fees at delivery!)

It really is a pity we don't get nearly as much books as for Solidworks (what an understatement!!!). I looked for a book on surfacing, found nothing.

I've been tempted to buy those video tutorials teebar, but I tend to get bored listening to those. I'd like to get it on book form...

RE: Are any of these solid edge books any good?

Clicked on Submit Post instead of Edit. Anyway, since it's clear based on your urls you are in the UK, that UPS comment was directed at anyone who might read this thread.

RE: Are any of these solid edge books any good?

phudge, I've just looked at the content of book No. 2 (properly this time!!) and it looks quite basic.  Sorry for the bum-steer.  Both of the other two have sections on sufacing, but don't expect too much.

Gemnoc, interesting you say that, I also was disappointed in Sham Tickoo's book.  I have used it a couple of time and to that extent has been useful, but fairly poor value for money.
In theroy the videos should be good, but like you I found the them a bit slow moving and got bored quickly.

RE: Are any of these solid edge books any good?

At my previous place of employment, we purchased the second 2 books in an attempt to expand our Solid Edge knowledge.  Both were useless.  There is no documentation that I have found that goes beyond the basic tutorials within Solid Edge itself - something I consider to be one of this software's biggest downfalls.  It's pretty much a learn by doing program.

RE: Are any of these solid edge books any good?

Hi All,

It's pretty much a learn by doing program. - exactly ProDarwin.

I've been around SE since V7 and there has never really been any books with real guts worth spending cash on.
I've come to the conclusion the SE is for working engineers, usually specialists in their field, who have a no time or inclination to study general books or write them for that matter.
If a modelling problem occurs they will find a work around and gradually refine the method, or alternatively reach out to others who may have experience.
Over 10yrs I have never stopped learning and refining, I have come to enjoy the learning curve and gave up on the quick fix years ago

RE: Are any of these solid edge books any good?

They also add new functionality quicker than I can learn it, at least given my roles of late, so keeping a book up to date is going to be an effort.

So I still beat V19 into submission using the same techniques I did at V5 & V7.  Not because the software hasn't improved but I haven't kept up.
