Min thickness
Min thickness
(OP)
Would anyone please advise or state the industrial common practice.
What is the min thickness can be used for 32' diameter vessel (no hydro, no static head, atm pressure)
Are stiffeners required other then ext P purpose?
Thanks

RE: Min thickness
Fluid properties determine the corrosive properties of the material of the tank.
Height and fill method and discharge methods of the tank determine HOW the tank/vessel/silo is supported = HOW its walls must be designed structurally.
How and why do you think you will EVER get external pressures?
RE: Min thickness
no Pext there.

If it is with atmospheric pressure........it is not a vessel..rather better to call it a tank......!!
Only liquid head would be there to cause pressure on the tank walls......and the wall thickness would be reducing from bottom to top in segments...!
I give you a reference....may be helpful to you....
We have a Spent Caustic Storage tank of 31.9' dia with a domed roof and a height of 27' ....similar to your dimensions......it has 04 sections of shell. The lower most shell plate is 9.4 mm thk. and upper 03 shell plates are of 6.4 mm thk each.
The plate material is A 283 C...hope the input will help you.......
All the best.......!!
