FEMAP plate offsets

FEMAP plate offsets

FEMAP plate offsets

(OP)
I run FEMAP 9.3 & MSc Nastran 2005.  I have a model that runs and gives result output, but when I offset any plates in the FEM, then rerun, it gives enormous stresses on the offset plates.  The offset is very small. I have checked the nodal stresses in the F06 and they are E10 psi.  Has anyone any idea why its doing this?  The constant offsets have been applied using Modify/update elements/adjust plate thickness/offset. Thank you.

RE: FEMAP plate offsets

What solution sequence? Offsets won't work in Nastran with solution sequences which use differential stiffness matrixes (nonlinear and buckling).

Otherwise check the plate bending forces. Basically find out what deformation is resulting in these high predictions.

RE: FEMAP plate offsets

it does sound odd ... small off-set should produce small moments.
i'd also suggest posting the the UGS: Femap forum (under Engineering Computer Programs).
