Actual moment of Inertia according to API 650 V.8.2.3

Hi,

1-me working on tank calculation and analysis, so, is there any one who can assist me in finding the actual moment of interia as discussed in V.8.2.3. I need formula to find the actual moment of inertia,
2- What is the criteria to choose the intermediate wind stiffener, e,g. i have one tank whose Dia is 20m and height is 16m, requied section modulus calculated is 103 cm^3,  required cross sectional area is 298.68mm^2(calculated acc. to V.8.2.2.6.1 ), So please assist me how i can select stiffener size based on these calculations? If there is any more calculation required please guide me,
Thanx

Calculation of moment of inertia is normally covered in Strength of Materials class as part of an engineering curriculum.  You use the formula for rectangular areas and the parallel axis theorem.

Hi JStepen,

Thanx for your response,
I tried my best to find using Paralell axix thorem but i dont find any solution, Actually i want to  find moment of inertia about the shell to bottom joint, I want to explore it more, If possible, you send me an example solution,

Thanks
