onsite generator assesment

Hi everybody,
does anyone know the standart procedure for onsite generator assesment?
does surge, hipot ,winding resistance is enough?

thank you

RE: onsite generator assesment

How big is the machine? Synchronous or induction? If it's a big one I'd definitely want an RSO and PD survey, ideally an El-CID too if it could be arranged. have a look at Doble's website for some ideas on the available tests. There isn't a 'standard' as far as I know although there may be industry or company guidelines.

i just read from doble's website. thank you scottyUK for the reference.. one of the test is RSO to test rotor winding integrity. what is the different between RSO and ordinary surge test like for example baker surge test D12R?

thank you

RE: onsite generator assesment

Baker surge test is a high voltage test and hence potentially destructive. RSO is very low voltage test.

but the cause surge test use high voltage to test wheater winding insulation is still in good condition under high stress. if RSO using a very low voltage is it good to calculate winding insullation in rotor because is not under high stress of voltage?
