Code Interpretation

(OP)
ASME Section IX
Code Reference:
Article III - Welding Performance Qualification
Background:
The Welding Variables for Welders, QW-350, lists the Essential Variables for each Process. Paragraph QW-405.3 in these process tables states that a change in the progression of Vertical welding requires Requalification of the Welder.
Inquiry:
Is it correct in saying that when the performance test is conducted in a 5G or 6G position, the welder will not be allowed to change progression on one test piece?

Yes, that is correct for the vertical portions of the test coupons.

If you want the welder qualified for both upward and downward progression, there has to be two separate qualifications.
