Horse vs. Counterfort

Horse vs. Counterfort

Horse vs. Counterfort

(OP)
I am working on a structure that was designed in the 1950s.  A part of the structure is refered to as the "horse".  Its function is the same as a counterfort, as in counterfort retaining wall.  Does anyone know if the definitions/purposes are the same between counterfort and horse?

Thanks

RE: Horse vs. Counterfort

From a Google search:

Counterfort or Buttress (Flying Buttress):

1. - A construction, usually of brick or stone, built to support a wall

2. - either of the two pointed rear parts of a horse's hoof
