Catia V5: Trouble constraining inside sub assembly

Catia V5: Trouble constraining inside sub assembly

Catia V5: Trouble constraining inside sub assembly

(OP)

Hello all,

I searched first in the FAQ page but didn't find a similar thread, so here I go.

I inserted 10 instances of the same part inside my assembly and found things didn't look very tidy. If I packed them all inside  a sub-assembly I would end up with a specific Catproduct file for it, which I didn't wanted, so I put them inside a component because this doen't generate a file(you know, the icon without paper sheet i.e. no associated file)

The trouble began when trying to set constraints to the 10 instances inside the component. It seems they all share the same basic xy,xz,yz planes (they get highlighted together)

Constraining one constraints them all, they move together and different constraints are immediately incompatible!(since they are all handled like one part)

Even copy or copy without links doesn't help.

If I take them out of the component and revert to the "messy" way, that is all parts under the catproduct then it all works fine again.

I can't believe this is a CATIA V5 limitation. What am I missing here? Any clues?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Frederic

RE: Catia V5: Trouble constraining inside sub assembly

You need to turn your subassembly or component to flexible mode.

Have you activated your component when trying to move your parts
