DIN 5480 & 5482 - differences & availability?
DIN 5480 & 5482 - differences & availability?
(OP)
Can someone summarize the major difference between DIN 5480 & 5482?
Does anyone know why these standards have such limited availability?
The part covering tolerancing (Part 14) is no longer available at the ANSI store. Anyone know where I can get a copy?

RE: DIN 5480 & 5482 - differences & availability?
Since the DIN standards are German language, that limits their usage. Plus, ANSI B92 and ISO 4156 standards are used commonly.
You can obtain DIN 5480-14 from Global Engineering Documents:

However, it is still commonly used particularly in the fluid flow industries.
Some of the differences are: Uncommon pitches are used e.g. 1.9 module is one.
Generating tools for a given pitch do not cover the full range of teeth within that pitch. There may be several cutters needed to cover the range due to the varying whole depths. Unlike 5480 tools which will cut all the numbers of teeth within the pitch.
Internal profiles are required to have tip chamfering.
"Does anyone know why these standards have such limited availability?"
Only in the USA.
In the rest of the world these two standards are far more common than ANSI or ISO.
In the latest edition of DIN5480 2006 part 14 is no longer used.
