Handheld Laser Measuring Device

Handheld Laser Measuring Device

(OP)
For survey work, we've been using a Spectra Precision Handheld Laser Model HD 150 and it just died.  Doing some research for a new handheld laser measuring device and curious what people these days use out there.

I know Leica is a good brand, but not looking to spend thousands of dollars.  We're not a surveying company.  I'm trying to see if there is more advanced equipment out there for reasonable prices to expedite the survey process.  I'm mainly talking about survey for a new sprinkler system in an existing building.  I don't know if there is equipment that makes use of GPS that can link up to a computer or something of that nature.

Appreciate any suggestions.  Currently looking into the Leica DISTO series devices.

RE: Handheld Laser Measuring Device

I use a Hilti PD30.  I have used it for years.  Seems to work as long as I am not measuring out in the broad daylight.  If I am in a building, it is not a problem.  I would be lost without the Hilti.  If I recall correctly, it was about $300 when I bought it.

Hilti is what I use.  The $100 units are worth nothing but a $300-$400 Hilti is worth every penny.  Mine is accurate to 1/16" and reliable over the 4 years I've used it.

I'm a little late responding but:

I have the Laica DISTO A3 US

It's small, easily fits into a shirt pocket (I can't wait for them to come out with a key chain model), it's fast and it's very accurate.

i use the laica d3 has a longer distance it can handle.

GPS will not work well for our application within buildings GPS is accurate with a line of sight to the sky,

RE: Handheld Laser Measuring Device

I use the Bosch DLR165 mainly for floor-to-ceiling, pipe-to-wall measurements, for space take-offs.  Up to 165 ft and within 1/16 in. accuracy, according to the specs.  About $100. Doesn't work too well outside in the daylight, but that's not a common use for me.

RE: Handheld Laser Measuring Device

Based on this particular thread I purchased the PD-40. Excellent instrument in my books. Get's it's own Pelican case for being so sweet.

You can't beat the Hilti PD models.  They are really good.  I still have my trusty PD30 and love it!
