Gas canopy steel deck catalog / specs

Gas canopy steel deck catalog / specs

Gas canopy steel deck catalog / specs

(OP)
Can someone point me where I can find load tables / catalogs / specs for steel decks that are primarily used for gas canopies? These decks are different from the standard B-type decks used in regular buildings (i.e., Verco, ASC, Vulcraft, etc.). Thanks.

RE: Gas canopy steel deck catalog / specs

Try a search on the EngTips search engine.  There are several threads on gas canopies.  Most deal with wind load but there might be some useful info on them.

I searched and found a couple of threads but they're about different issues. Nothing useful to what I'm after.

RE: Gas canopy steel deck catalog / specs

I suggest that you google "metal roofing" rather than "steel deck".  You will probably get a lot of Australian information, because we mostly use metal roofing, but there should be some US information as well.  I have assumed you are in the US because of your use of the term "gas canopy".

RE: Gas canopy steel deck catalog / specs

Gas canopies can take on a variety of forms.  Will it have a proprietary metal roof over reflective soffit?  Will it have a built-up roof over conventional exposed metal deck?  Will it have an extruded aluminum decking over aluminum or steel support system?  What type of framing is proposed?  Will it be cantilevered off center columns?  Will it have a rigid 4-column (or more) support system?  Is there a significant wind load or snow load?

A bit more info please.

Yes, I'm in the US and I'm talking about the type where the steel deck attaches to the bottom of the steel beams. The deck is 12"-24" wide (16" wide seems to be what is commonly used) and is one long continuous run that also doubles as the finished ceiling and the beams are exposed from the top. This is a fairly typical construction, at least here in the southwest but I googled and can't seemed to find any detailed info about the deck or a manufacturer. I've seen this type in the east coast also but the steel deck seemed to be proprietary.

Yuck!

Thanks Ron, that's what I figured, it's a proprietary system that design-build contractors are not willing to share. I actually contacted a couple but wasn't able to get any info with regards to the deck. That article is a good one. I always thought this kind of system is a snow collector and a lawsuit waiting to happen. I'll say 9.5 out of 10 gas stations here in the Phoenix metro were built that way but I haven't heard of any local failures so far.
