Cold room/Warm room HVAC

Cold room/Warm room HVAC

Have anyone has any experience in any cases, where the air terminal devices/balancing dampers that are located above a cold room/warm room/environment room? May I know how can these HVAC equipments be accessed through the top of these rooms? Is there any rule of thumb that forbid locating those equipments above these rooms? Please advise. Thanks

RE: Cold room/Warm room HVAC

How cold, how warm, what environment? The equipment should be accessible. This is not always possible through the skin of a temperature controlled room due to thermal break and vapor barrier problems.

RE: Cold room/Warm room HVAC

Akron, these are often packaged boxes bought from a manufacturer. Sort of like a stand up shower. You can custom build one, but you have to think it out. How cold is the cold box? How warm is the warm box? If standard HVAC devices control the environment, they need to be accessible. It might not be practical to access them through the cold or warm room because it could cause problems with thermal breaks and vapor barriers...

(sorry, my first post didn't show up so I re-thought it and reposted!)

Thanks...Actually the standard HVAC devices are just used for ventilation...which is about 50cfm recirculating air. But I guesss the bottom line is still...not recommended huh. right?

RE: Cold room/Warm room HVAC

Akron, right. Air terminal VAV control boxes and associated reheat piping/duct heaters should definitely be accessible without having to demolish walls or ceilings, especially those of a warm or cold room.
