Engine Gyroscopic Effects

Engine Gyroscopic Effects

Engine Gyroscopic Effects

(OP)
Are the gyroscopic effects of a jet engine rotating assembly in small (fighter) aircraft significant?  It seems that they would tend to couple pitch and yaw, but this is really out of my area.  Are they dealt with via counter-rotating spools within the engine, control system modifications, or not at all?

RE: Engine Gyroscopic Effects

The Pegasus engined Harrier has contra rotating spools.  Precession was a big problem in slow flight and the hover.

In most other aircraft, precession would be taken care of in the flight control system.
