(OP)
Pardon my ignorance. I need some help understanding some material issues. Have some 2024-T3 Bare Aluminum with evidence of pitting. The pitting was found in the incoming inpection of the material. The pitting was only evident after the material as sulfuric acid anodized at processing. Can anyone shed some light on how the pitting would show up only after the processing?

RE: 2024-T3 Aluminum

Anodizing runs an electric current through the part.  2000 materials a susceptible to "arcing" in the tank due to the copper content.  The typical spec for anodizing limits the voltage for such materials.

I'd read the spec you called out and verify the shop followed it properly.
