Path Constraint

Path Constraint

Path Constraint

(OP)
Hi All,

I'm trying to make a part concentric to another part but also follow a 3d profile. I've attached an image to better explain.

I created the path by projecting a circular sketch to the curved surface. The part on the right needs to be concentric and the points shown need to follow the path while maintaining the concentricity.

However when I make one of the points coincident the part only rotates about 15 degrees before it stops.

I've tried using the path mate but it ends up fully defining the parts once I add the concentricity mate.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

RE: Path Constraint

When you look at your path from the normal is it circular?  Maybe there's a slight deviation that is hanging you up?

Hey Dan,

Yah the path is circular. I created a sketch of a circle above the wavy surface and created a projected curve.

RE: Path Constraint

Possibly it's just a SW calculation precision error created when projecting the circle onto the cam profile. It might only be at the 6th or 8th decimal place, but could be enough to create the conflict.

Instead of projecting the sketch circle, try using an extruded surface, and following the intersecting edge.

RE: Path Constraint

Hi,

What happens if you use path/coincident mates only without the  concentric one?

If the cam designed correctly these two mates should define the parts orientation and they should became concentric automatically.

Thanks,
Artem

I'll try the extruded surface technique today.

Artem the part doesn't stay concentric if I use the path/coincident mate between one of the points and the path. If I use both points and the path mate the parts become fully defined.

Cor thanks for the suggestion. Selecting the edges of the extruded surface allowed the Path mate to work correctly.
