Charted drawings

Charted drawings

(OP)
I have multiple parts for example a sheet metal box....how do I create one drawing showing one image of a box and a chart showing all the other box dims (charted drawing) I have previously linked dimensions of a single part to fields in bom tables...but I really need to find a way to create a custom table just for displaying charted dimensions of multiple similar parts but only showing one part.

RE: Charted drawings

You will want to look up "design table" is solidworks help.

Basically you will have multiple configurations in your part file that represent all of your different boxes (all same geometry, just different dimensions).  You will have all these configurations generated by the design table.  The design table allows you to quickly create all of your configurations by filling out a spreadsheet.  Within the drawing, you can "insert>table" to bring that design table into the drawing.  You will then hide unnecessary cells and add your titles.

RE: Charted drawings

Also, I have never heard the terminology "charted drawing" we refer to this practice as a "tabulated drawing".  Often times different search strings will ultimately yield the answers we are looking for.

There is also a nifty macro on the web---it escapes me right now who wrote it --- that imports an excel table to a SW general table.  Kudos to the person who wrote it; I use it frequently.

Design table probably is preferred to make it "intelligent" but for the quick text type info, the macro works great.
