Dragging a follwer to "create" cam profile...

Dragging a follwer to "create" cam profile...

Dragging a follwer to "create" cam profile...

(OP)
I am trying to design a linear cam.

Right now the path of the follower is defined and constrained by assembly mates. I can drag the follower and watch it move along the desired path. The video shows the follower going through the material of the cam body as I drag the follower left and right.

I would like to cut the excess material from the cam body in such a way that if the follower is tangentially mated to the cam profile, it would follow the same exact path without the existing assembly mates that make it do so in the video.

RE: Dragging a follwer to "create" cam profile...

Are you using the "Path" Mate in the Assembly? If so, you have the sketched path. You can use it as the path for "Swept-Cut" feature in the cam-body.

The easiest way to make the cut is working in-context of the assembly.

If you need some more assistance I can help. It would be the best if you attach the sample model.

Thanks,
Artem

Artem,

Thank you for responding and trying to help me with this issue.

No, I am not using the "path" mate. I agree that it would have been easy to simply do a "sweep-cut" if I had a sketch already. But unfortunately I do not have a sketch for the path. The movement in the model (see video and attached model) happens due to a set of mates/restraints. My task is to design a cam that would act in lieu of the mates, and yet cause the same movement trajectory.

I am also attaching a sample model as you pointed out.

No Dan, it is not.

RE: Dragging a follwer to "create" cam profile...

Hi,

I would like to propose you to create the path by keypoint. Follow the next steps:

1) Move the follower to the end position.
2) Create the sketch on the Front Plane or the Follower's front face.
3) Create the sketch point and add Concentric relation with the Follower's cylindrical edge.
4) Delete the relation.
5) Move the follower a little bit
6) Repeat the steps 3-5 until the Follower come the end.
...
7)Create the spline through the point
8) Use it as the path for swept-cut feature.

Please refer the attached picture.

Thanks,
Artem
