Building and Design Codes in Venezuela

Building and Design Codes in Venezuela

(OP)
Hello everyone,
This is my first post and I'm not quite sure where it's appropriate to make this post. I'm involved on the startup of a pulp and paper project in Venezuela and have been charge with issuing the Civil/Structural Design Criteria as well as preparing preliminary Civil Guide drawings for a particular department. What I'd like to know is which design Codes are normally adopted on projects in this country? Our company is finishing up a project there using UBC, but this was prescribed by the Client. In this case the Client have not prescribed any codes and I'm currently considering adopting UBC or their local COVENIN which I know nothing about but thought it'd be good to solicit your experience on working in the area.
I'm also curious on the local requirements for emergency egress such as stair width, riser/run limits, max landing heights, travel distances etc. Any input would be much appreciated.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Charles
