(OP)
I am developing tutorials for using Haestad's Watercad
with the integration of Autocad to graphically present
effective and accurate information.

The tutorials will be used by the engineers in our company who are not very skilled with the computer.

Visa-versa, I am not an engineer. Therefore, I need suggestions. Although I am a capable and fairly fast designer, my knowledge of useful information pertaining to water distribution design is very little, if not nil. I am completely fluent with using the software to its fullest capabilities.

My Question:

What are some of the most common (or redundant) routines
you run into when designing water distribution systems
(from data collection to final reports)/

Thanks for anyone who would like to help.

RE: need some friendly suggestions

It seems to me that your best source would be the engineers who you're making this for.  They know what redundant routines they use.  In fact, they may have some good ideas as to how to present the results that would be more meaningful to them.

RE: need some friendly suggestions

I can't bother them...they are too busy. Thanks anyways. I wouldn't have come here unless I couldn't have found another alternative.

RE: need some friendly suggestions

Dear friend:
I suppose you know there is an EPA program called EPANET to deal with waterpipes nets.

This program has a wonderful Tutorial. I believe viewing it could give you some ideas.

Best regards from Spain.

RE: need some friendly suggestions

If you don't talk to the people that will use your training, they will not get much from it.   It will look to them like only you have any idea of how and why this system is a good one.  I wouldn't care HOW busy they are.  Its apparently your job to make this system work for them to reduce their workload.  If they all spend ten hours telling you what they need, they could save 100 hours in a year on inproved output. There is an economy here they and you have to embrace.

RE: need some friendly suggestions

i agree with dicksewerrat and prodeng you have to talk to the engineers in your office that will ultimately use it.

If our IT department dropped a $XXXX.00 software package on my desk next week without discussing it before with me, I might me tempted to chuck it back at them.
