Welding 316 with 316Ti
Welding 316 with 316Ti
(OP)
Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to weld 316 (DIN 1.4404) with 316L or with 316Ti (DIN 1.4571).
If so, which is the filler material to be used and is there any table or Standard where I can look for the info
Thanks,

Thanks metengr and MikeMet for your answer. I will reframe my question. If I have a Flange made of 316 or 316L can I weld it to a pipe made of 316Ti?

Just a bit of caution for joining 316L to 316Ti;- usually the 316Ti is selected for high temperature applications and you get a note in the ASME II Table D, mentioning the minimum 0.04% carbon content for temperatures above 550 deg C. Since the welding to low carbon stainless steel will dilute the carbon content, you run a real risk of carbide precipitation which will affect the corrosion resistance of the weld.
I would use the Note G12 which is referring to the heat analysis;- you can get good 316Ti forgings with suitable heat analysis certification, despite the Table D not listing the 316Ti forgings. Then the welding would not be an issue at all.
