No preview in Solidworks 2008

No preview in Solidworks 2008

No preview in Solidworks 2008

(OP)
Just got a new computer with Windows 7 (64 bit) operating system. When I am in Solidworks 2008 and attempt to open a file, none of the files have a preview. Anybody else have this problem?

RE: No preview in Solidworks 2008

Possibly a stupid question, but do you have the checkbox above the preview area checked in the Open dialog?

On my 32 bit system, there is a checkbox for thumbnail. This check box is not there in the 64 bit system (at least not that I have found.) I can change the thumbnail size next to the file name, but if I change it to something other than small, it becomes a black square, and this does not seem to affect the main preview box.

RE: No preview in Solidworks 2008

I have lost the preview ever since upgrading to Windows Vista. So now I use the SolidWorks Explorer which does give me a preview.

Sirbartoo and Standing ...

Do you both have the Aero interface enabled?

I have found the solution to the no preview problem. In Windows 7, goto Windows Explorer/organize/folder and search options/view, there is a check box that reads "Always show icon, never thumbnails". This box must not be checked if you want previews. I guess was checked automatically when Windows 7 was installed. I assume this will be changed when Wondows 7 is actually released.

CorBlimeyLimey,
I turned on Aero, but still no preview from within the SolidWorks open dialog. Although I do like the small pop-up preview of what the window contains. I think I will keep Aero interface enabled for awhile.
A star for you.

Standing, see my last post. I am not sure if Vista is exactly the same as Windows 7, but it should have a similar option box.

RE: No preview in Solidworks 2008

sirbartoo,
Thank you so very much. A big star for you.
The Windows Explorer/organize/folder and search options/view, unchecked "Always show icon, never thumbnails". Did not work for me.
Although I did what you said in SolidWorks, from the Open dialog. Organize, Layout Preview Pane. I clicked Preview Pane and now I have a Preview. Wow, you made my day.
